Every hour a child is diagnosed with cancer. Every 6.5 hours, another young life is lost to this disease. From March 1st to May 2nd, men, women, and children from the Tampa Bay area and communities nationwide will take a bold step forward to help curb this staggering statistic.

They are shaving their heads for the 5th Annual Bright House Networks Cut for a Cure Charity Challenge presented by Carrabba’s Italian Grill. All proceeds benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and select nonprofit organizations.

We invite you to join us in the fight by making a donation today. If you are interested in becoming a shavee, please call the Pediatric Cancer Foundation at 813-269-0955.

Teams

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers proudly support the efforts of the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and stand united behind those battling cancer.

In 2012, the team hosted children and families affected by pediatric cancer at One Buccaneer Place to kick off National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by dedicating a “Wall of Hope.” A daily reminder of the Buccaneers’ commitment to pediatric cancer research, the “Wall of Hope” was displayed at One Buccaneer Place throughout September.

In 2013, the Buccaneers were honored to participate in the Cut for a Cure Charity Challenge, raising over $20,000 for the cause. This year, the team hopes our efforts will not only raise funds for pediatric cancer research, but continue strengthening our community’s fight against this deadly disease.

Academy Prep Center of Tampa

We are shaving our heads to help fund the Student Scholarship Fund at Academy Prep Center of Tampa and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation to ensure that more children can become future community leaders.

Academy Prep Center of Tampa empowers and inspires students qualifying for need-based scholarships to become future community leaders through a rigorous middle school program coupled with ongoing graduate support. In 11 years of service to our community, Academy Prep graduates boast a 95% high school graduation rate, compared to the high school graduation rate of only 45% of the adults living within a mile radius of our campus. We strive to end the cycle of generational poverty by instilling the value of education and community service in our students.

The Pediatric Cancer Foundation is dedicated to funding research to eliminate childhood cancer. Their focus is to fund research to find less toxic, more targeted therapies by partnering with leading hospitals nationwide.

By participating in Cut for a Cure, a group of students, faculty, staff, and volunteers of Academy Prep Center of Tampa are shaving their heads to support children and families facing one of the biggest challenges of their lives. Our team is committed to raising at least $16,000.

David Kirchinger and Tires Plus Team

I am shaving my head because of my passion for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and the young lives it saves every day.”

I was excited when Tires Plus began its affiliation with PCF by having customers participate in a "Round Up" campaign. Customers were able to round their bill to the nearest dollar and that change was given to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

I felt I could do more to help the organization raise contributions and bring awareness to the public. With the inspiration of Jeremy Persinger, Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Tires Plus, we started an annual car and bike show to help bring the public out for a fun event while putting the spotlight on pediatric cancer and raising money. Cut for the Cure is my next step in helping by not only bringing more awareness to the organization, but also raising more money needed for research to save the lives of sick children…a child who could one day be a doctor, saving more lives or a researcher looking for the next cure. Who wouldn't want to be a part of this?

In honor of Jeremy Persinger.

Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay

We are honored to be part of Team Junior Achievement and to participate in this opportunity to support research to cure this terrible disease. At the same time, we are able to support Junior Achievement and help to further empower young people to own their economic success. We all have friends or family members who are currently fighting, have fought, or have lost the fight to cancer. Also, we are personally committed to inspiring students to dream big and reach their potential through Junior Achievement. These loved ones are our reasons for raising awareness for these two important causes. We are honored to participate in Cut for the Cure. We are determined to make a difference- but we cannot do it alone.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! Please consider donating and help us in our goal to eradicate this disease while at the same time investing in our children’s dreams. No donation is too small to make a difference. On behalf of Team Junior Achievement, we thank you. Thank you in advance for supporting this important cause!

One World, One Child

We will be shaving our heads to raise awareness and funds for One World, One Child and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
One World, One Child was formed to provide financial and medical support to children in extreme need. This is accomplished by offering programs to enhance their quality of life, education and physical well-being.

The Pediatric Cancer Foundation is dedicated to funding research to eliminate childhood cancer. Their focus is to fund research to find less toxic, more targeted therapies by partnering with leading hospitals nationwide.

Please donate today!

PNC Bank

We are shaving our heads to help raise awareness and fund pediatric cancer research. Only 3.8% of federal government cancer research goes to children. The Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s focus is to fund research to find less toxic and more targeted therapies. Currently, they have opened four phase 1 clinical trials open at 11 hospitals nationwide. Great strides are being made, but our help is needed. Please join us in supporting the Pediatric Cancer Foundation. Together, we can make a difference.

Tampa Bay Rays

Cut for a Cure has become a spring training tradition for the Rays. This is about being there for the kids and their families. We want them to know they are not alone. It’s a small gesture, but it is our way of showing support for them while gaining empathy for what they are going through. We have a saying posted in our locker room that says ‘Fortune favors the bold.’ As we go forward with this campaign we are doing so under the flag ‘Fortune favors the bald.’

As an organization, we are proud to support organizations and institutions like the Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF) and the Moffitt Cancer Center.

We have designated Pediatric Cancer Foundation as the full recipient of the donations we raise.

Team Crane

It is our honor to bring awareness and support to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

We are shaving our heads because funding cancer research is the only way to improve outcomes for this terrible disease. Currently, cancer remains the leading cause of death among children in the United States. Sixty percent of pediatric cancer survivors develop at least one chronic health condition because treatments are so harsh.

The Pediatric Cancer Foundation is making a real difference in the world of childhood cancer research. They have four phase 1 clinical trials open at 11 hospitals nationwide and are focusing on finding less toxic, more targeted therapies for children battling cancer.

We are shaving our heads on April 9th in honor of the many children who have battled or are currently battling this horrific disease. We are also shaving in memory of Scott Crane and in honor of Debbie Lyerly, who is currently battling cancer.
Please consider joining us in the fight….donate today.

We can make a difference!

On behalf of Team Crane – Nancy, Steve, and Matthew, THANK YOU.

We have designated Pediatric Cancer Foundation as the full recipient of the donations we raise.

Members of this team: Nancy Crane, Steve Crane, Matthew Crane

Team Fenlon

My son Conner and I are honored and humbled to participate in the Pediatric Cancer Foundation's Cut for a Cure. Shaving our heads is a small gesture, but we hope it helps bring awareness to this disease and that our fundraising efforts will make at least one child's road to recovery, a little easier.

We are shaving in memory of Sylvia Porcaro; a wonderful and selfless mom, grandmother and friend.

The funds we raise will be split between the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and Tampa Prep’s Valesares Fund.

Team Jaguar

We are shaving our heads to fund pediatric cancer research and the Academy of the Holy Names.

As students of the Academy of the Holy Names, we would like to help children with cancer. Most of us are lucky and are very healthy. We realize that there are many children who are not as fortunate as we are. By joining forces, we hope to not only raise money for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation but also to raise money for our school. More importantly, we want to raise awareness about children with cancer, honor those who have died, and encourage those still fighting.

Team Quantum Leap

Cancer doesn’t care about age. It doesn’t care about race, nationality, borders, religion or socio-economic levels. It can strike anyone, at any time.

At Quantum Leap Farm, we understand how this disease affects more people than those diagnosed. Through therapeutic horseback riding and other equine-assisted therapies, we help whole families battling cancer to stay connected, so together they may grow strong, achieve goals and overcome challenges by engaging with horses.

Quantum Leap is excited to be part of the “Cut for a Cure” event. Our team is hoping to reach an attainable $15,000 goal to promote awareness and raise some much needed funds to battle this monster called cancer. Team Quantum has gathered a group of adults, kids and even a couple of horses to add to our team of “future baldies”! Everyone is excited to participate in this amazing fundraising event.

United as One

It is a true honor to join the fight in finding a cure. We stand together and are doing our very small part to help create change so that every child has the opportunity to grow up in a world where cancer is not a concern because a cure has been found. Together, we can create miracles and make a difference in lives and we look forward to seeing the smiling faces on everyone when we win this battle. We are a team that has united to honor the amazing individuals that are struggling with this disease right now and our goal is to provide them with the hope and support they need to overcome the obstacles that have been placed before them.

Our team goal is to raise $15,000 and we need your assistance to achieve this. Each donation that is made will go directly to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and will be instrumental in helping to find a cure. Thank you very much for helping to make a difference and create change.

Cancer is a devastating disease. I’ve witnessed its effects on many of my friends and their families.

When I was introduced to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation 7 years ago at Fashion Funds the Cure, it was the first time I encountered children battling this disease. I’ll never forget watching those kids walk down the runway and imagining what they and their families were going through. No one should have to face cancer let alone a child.

I am honored to participate in Cut for a Cure and shave my head to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. I hope that my participation helps spread awareness and bring us one step closer to a cure.

I am shaving my head as a symbol of the small sacrifices we can all make to do everything we can to eradicate childhood cancer. The only way to find a cure is for everyone to give whatever they can to raise money for more research and better science. If we can affect the life of even one child for the better, we win.

If everyone does their part, we can find a cure.

Childhood cancer does not discriminate, sparing no ethnic group, socio-economic class or geographic region. The children are our future-but more than that, they are our sons, daughters, grandchildren, siblings; they are precious and innocent.

There is no greater fundraising effort than working towards lowering the current pediatric cancer statistics by participating in the Cut for a Cure Charity Challenge for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation. This foundation has brought doctors and hospitals together from all over the nation to conduct research on improving pediatric cancer treatments. They have become the top innovators in pediatric cancer research and I couldn’t be more humbled and honored than to assist in their fundraising efforts and be an advocate for these brave children and their families.

Another passion of mine is in helping youths get a great education to make a better community, which is why I will be donating a portion of the proceeds raised on my behalf to Saint Peter Claver School.

In memory of Frank Dominguez, Cynthia Perez and many more.

I will be shaving my head to help fund pediatric cancer research!

If I can bring a smile to a child that is battling something I cannot even wrap my mind around and raise money for such a worthy cause, shave away! This is a great way to draw attention to a very important cause. I can also teach my son about giving back to others. I have watched family members battle cancer and struggle as adults; if that battle can be eliminated for all starting with kids, how great would that be!

I will be shaving my head to raise money for the Scholarship Fund at Berkeley Preparatory School and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

As a father, educator, and coach, my life is positively influenced by the remarkable children I interact with on a daily basis. Their willingness to explore the unknown in search of personal satisfaction is a testament to the wonderful future that lies ahead. All children deserve an opportunity to have their dreams become a reality and shaving my head is a simple sign of support. I admire those children who courageously battle cancer in their quest to discover the world they desire. My personal goal is to create a real awareness for the necessity to cure pediatric cancer and to support the Scholarship Fund at Berkeley Preparatory School.

I am also shaving my head to show my continuous love and support for Ashley Sullivan and to honor Al Pisano who is a former Dean of Students, Coach, and mentor to all that crossed his path at Berkeley Preparatory School.

Thank you for considering a donation to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation. This year I want to dedicate my efforts to Remi Storch and Dana Bertoch-Levin. These incredible young ladies have been through so much and are giving back so much to others. The Storch family, Catherine, Patrick, Chloe fought Remi's cancer for many years, now a healthy teenager she is truly a celebration and will have a big impact on the world ahead of her. Dana Bertoch-Levin was diagnosed when she was 15. Dana’s mother Kay and brother Cody are a part of PCF after so many years of speaking and family support. Her father Dan was a member of the board of PCF. She's been healthy now for over 8 years and is an oncology nurse. Cancer changed both their lives but through supporting other families and public speaking to thousands these young ladies are giving so much hope to others. I’ve been involved with the Pediatric Cancer Foundation since the early 1990’s when little Richard Casey lost his fight with cancer. Now as we start 2014, the foundation is funding the Sunshine Project and making a big difference in pediatric cancer research. Pediatric cancer research does not get the attention or the investment other forms of cancer get from the Pharma community. The funds we then provide are critical to the inception, process and success of pediatric cancer research. We need your help, and there is no better cause than little kids with cancer and their families. I hope and feel certain that shaving my head will help shake some money loose from my friends and family. Thank you for your help!

I am honored and humbled to participate in the Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s Cut for a Cure. It is a small gesture relative to the battle that so many children bravely face each day in their fight against cancer. It is through their spirit and strength that we can all find hope and inspiration. Through participation, I want to help bring awareness to this disease and hope that the fundraising efforts will make at least one child’s road to recovery a little easier.

In addition, I am proud to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. As carriers for this disease, my wife and I feel incredibly blessed to have two healthy children. My involvement with the Pediatric Cancer Foundation began eight years ago when I learned how little funding exists to find a cure. I was shocked to learn that more money is spent annually protecting manatees in Florida than is spent worldwide on research aimed at finding a cure for pediatric cancer. While I am all for protecting the environment, I think our children should come first.

I would be grateful for any donation that you could make to help in the fight to find a cure.

I was first introduced to PCF when a close friend invited me to fish in the Grand Slam Tournament. It was there that I learned about the lack of funding for pediatric cancer research and the importance of organizations like PCF who fund research to find a cure for this terrible disease. It has been my honor to serve on the board of this great organization and see firsthand the progress being made. I am shaving my head to raise funds that will be used to create less toxic treatments and ultimately, a cure for childhood cancer.
