Worldwide, more than 160,000 children are diagnosed with pediatric cancer each year.   On April 3rd, an all-star team of men and women from the Tampa Bay area and communities nationwide will shave their heads at the Bright House Networks Cut For A Cure Charity Challenge presented by Carrabba's Italian Grill.  All proceeds benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and selected local and national nonprofit organizations.

By supporting them and their efforts “to go bald,” you are supporting medical research, programming and pediatric care for children and families battling pediatric cancer and blood disorders.

Teams

Academy Prep Center of Tampa

(Home of the "King Cobras")

Cancer is the #1 disease killer of children under 15 in our country, and every day the equivalent of two classrooms of students are diagnosed with cancer. As a school serving children throughout the Tampa Bay area, the ongoing crusade against pediatric cancer is a cause we are compelled to support. Our school's mission is to inspire students qualifying for need-based scholarships to achieve, to give back, and to become future community leaders, and after 10 years of service, we have seen hundreds of dreams realized. By participating in Cut for a Cure, the Academy Prep Cobras want to get behind children and their families facing one of the biggest challenges of their lives. Our Cobra team is committed to raise at least $50,000 towards pediatric cancer research so that children facing cancer can also become future community leaders and realize their dreams. We ask that you help us strike against childhood cancer, as every dollar donated will help bring us close to a cure!

We have designated Academy Prep Center of Tampa as an additional recipient of the donations we raise.

Members of this team are:  Lincoln Tamayo, Charlie Poe, Damien Dixon (6th grade boy), Allen Morliere (6th grade boy),

Sarai Murphy (5th grade girl), Richard Pernell (6th grade boy)

Bald is Beautiful

I am a cancer survivor. When I was 21 years old the doctors told me I had testicular cancer - bring on the fight, I thought. I can and I will beat this disease. Walking through the chemotherapy ward, I had no idea how much of an impact those beautiful children would have on my life then and now. I could understand and gauge a path to the big picture in life, but these children have barely had a chance to start a life. I watched as they played with their toys as most ordinary kids their age would do. I felt if I could just hang out with them and act like a kid with them, they would see, we can fight this together. So we did, I spent many hours helping those kids try and forget what they were going through, but little did they know, they were also helping me. So that is why I made a choice to participate in Vinny Lecavalier's Cut for a Cure. Vinny has made a huge difference in many children's and parents lives. Please help me in doing the same. We can all make a difference. Thank you! We are shaving in memory of Chris Thomas.

We have designated VL4 as an additional recipient of the donations we raise.

Members of this team are:  Kirk Boccabello, Josh Briesacher, Jim Lawson, Steven Osbourne, Robert Rodriguez, Jimmy Schram

Hunters & Liars

The Hunter’s & Liars are a Band of Brothers who have all been brought together for a purpose and cause. These close net groups of adventurous men are shaving our heads to support two important charities, the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and FARA (Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance). With your help & support we can fund research to help find a cure for pediatric cancer and Friedreich’s Ataxia.

The Pediatric Cancer Foundation is dedicated to funding research to eliminate childhood cancer. Their focus is to find less toxic, more targeted therapies by partnering with leading hospitals nationwide.

FARA (Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance) is dedicated to curing FA through research. FARA’s mission is to marshal and focus the resources and relationships needed to cure this disease by raising funds for research, promoting public awareness, and aligning scientists, patients, clinicians, government agencies and pharmaceutical companies and other organizations dedicated to treating and curing FA and related diseases.

Please Help Us, Help Others! Join us in the fight…we can make a difference.

It is our pleasure to serve the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and The Vinny Lecavalier Foundation in any way we can. As Men for Others, it’s our goal to raise money to help make a difference for those affected by cancer and to help fund the research needed to fight this disease. Quantum Leap Farm

Cancer doesn’t care about age. It doesn’t care about race, nationality, boarders, religion or socio-economic levels. It can strike anyone, at any time. At Quantum Leap Farm, we understand how this disease affects more people than those diagnosed. Through therapeutic horseback riding and other equine-assisted therapies, we help whole families battling cancer to stay connected, so together they may grow strong, achieve goals and overcome challenges by engaging with horses.

Quantum Leap is excited to be part of the “Cut for a Cure” event. Our team is hoping to reach an attainable $10,000 goal to promote awareness and raise some much needed funds to battle this monster called cancer.
Team Quantum has gathered a group of adults, kids and even a couple of horses to add to our team of “future baldies”! Everyone is excited to participate in this amazing fundraising event.

We have designated Quantum Leap Farm as an additional recipient of the donations we raise.

Members of this team are: Graham Allen, Nestor Barrios, Tom DuPont, Robert Galban, Michael Mandarino, Mike Merensky, MaKayla Muir,

Tampa Bay Rays

We hope to make this a Rays tradition every spring on or about March 15. Our first shaving last year was an overwhelming success. More than 70 of our players, coaches and staff, including our principal owner Stuart Sternberg, shaved their heads. We hope for more of the same this year. While this is, of course, really about supporting the kids and their families, it served as a great moment for our organization, perhaps one of the most important ever because we all stood up together for a cause so meaningful. And it is something we are excited to introduce to our new players each year. We will continue to shave our heads under our “Fortune Favors the Bald” slogan. As an organization, we are proud to support organizations and institutions like the Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF).

We have designated Pediatric Cancer Foundation as the full recipient of the donations we raise.

  Team Capitano

We cannot think of a better way to honor the kids in our community that need our help battling cancer than by putting a smile on the faces of my friends, family, and colleagues as a reminder of the children that need our help.

We are shaving in memory Frank Dominguez, Jr. 12/29/12.
I have designated Pediatric Cancer Foundation as the full recipient of the donations I raise.

Members of this team are:  Frank Capitano and Lex Capitano

Team C.H.A.R.G.E.

We are honored to participate in the Pediatric Cancer Foundation's Cut for a Cure. It is hard to think of an easier way to get involved with such a worthy cause. The fighting spirit in the kids is our inspiration to get involved. Through our participation we would like to help raise not only money, but morale. We would also like to raise awareness for other events we are working on in conjunction with the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, and hopefully encourage others to join in and cut as well.

We have designated VL4 as an additional recipient of the donations we raise.

Members of this team are: Brian Boksen, Stephen Gerhard, Matt Hill, Dan Schlindwein

Team Cherry Bekaert

We are participating in a group effort as we have all had a family member, both young and old, who has been affected by this terrible disease. By shaving our heads we hope to raise awareness and funding for children fighting cancer and in honor of those who have lost the battle with this disease.

Team For All Kids

I care for many children who have cancer at All Children’s Hospital. I want them to make sure they know we’re on their side. I’m shaving my hair to show solidarity with my patients. They are so brave. This is but a small token – for them. - Dr. Allison F. Messina, Infectious Diseases, All Children’s

I will be shaving my head to fund pediatric cancer research because funding cancer research is the only way to improve the outcomes for this terrible disease. While 80% of pediatric cancer patients are cured (largely due to the success of pediatric cancer research), we have to continue to aggressively pursue all options so no child will die from this disease. I am shaving in honor of all the children at the Vincent Lecavalier Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. - Dr. Gregory Hale, Hematology/Oncology, All Children’s.

I have designated VL4 as an additional recipient of the donations I raise.

Members of this team are: Dr. Allison Messina, Dr. Gregory Hale

Team Garraty

My father and I are shaving our heads to raise money for pediatric cancer research. My dad had cancer when he was a kid, so I think it's important to raise cancer awareness and raise money for a cure. My dad did Cut for a Cure two years ago and I thought I should do it with him this year.

Please help us exceed our goal by donating to Team Garraty for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation. Thank you for your support.

We are shaving in memory of Tracy O'Neil and Carolyn Kelly.

We have designated Pediatric Cancer Foundation as the full recipient of the donations we raise.

Members of this team are: Jack Garraty, Steve Garraty

Team JA

We are honored for the great opportunity to support research to cure this terrible disease while at the same time supporting Junior Achievement and helping to further educate young people in Tampa Bay. We all have friends or family members who are currently fighting, have fought or have lost the fight to cancer. It is for them that we want to raise awareness for these two important causes. As fathers ourselves we could not imagine the pain parents of sick children go through. We are happy to participate in Cut for the Cure to increase the possibility that one less child/family will have to experience the pain of cancer. We are determined to make a difference but we cannot do it alone. We need your support. Please consider donating and help us in our goal to eradicate this disease while at the same time inspiring Bay area students to dream big and reach their potential. No donation is too small to make a difference. On behalf of Team Junior Achievement, we thank you. We are shaving in memory of Maggie Jones, 1942-2011.

We have designated Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay as an additional recipient of the donations we raise.

Members of this team are: Nelson Castellano, Craig Cuffe, Jack Rybicki

Team Lightning

As members of Team Lightning, we stand united behind the many kids and families facing the toughest battle of their lives. We are shaving our heads to help make their fight just a little more bearable and contribute in any way to finding a cure for pediatric cancer. We are inspired by children who are facing possibly the greatest battle of their young lives yet still find the courage to remain positive. We want kids to know that we are on their team! We are shaving our heads in honor of Toner Colton and in memory of Katie Moore.

We have designated VL4 as an additional recipient of the donations we raise.

Members of this team are: Matt Carle, BJ Crombeen, Alex Killorn, Vincent Lecavalier, Teddy Purcell

Team Lively

We are honored to participate in the Cut for a Cure. We would like to do everything we can to raise awareness and funding for the 10,000 children that will be diagnosed with cancer this year and the thousands of others that continue to fight this horrible disease. Please join us in our cause to support the Pediatric Cancer Foundation. We are shaving our heads in honor of Ladonna Lively and Carolyn Molander.

We have designated VL4 as an additional recipient of the donations we raise.

Members of this team are: Derek Lively, Ty Lively

Team Mike Alstott Family Foundation

The Mike Alstott Family Foundation was formed many years after Mike and his wife Nicole were entrenched into the Tampa Bay Community. The Foundation was formed on the premise of uplifting the hearts, minds and spirits of children and families. Through the years both Mike and Nicole have witnessed firsthand the impact pediatric cancer can have on children and their families alike, and this is why the Mike Alstott Family Foundation is honored to join forces with the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and their Cut for a Cure program.

Please join forces with us in support of this wonderful cause.

We have designated the Mike Alstott Family Foundation as an additional recipient of the donations we raise.

Team Warhola

For Pete, it is an honor & privilege to be participating in a Cut for a Cure for the second year in a row. This time, a part of a team with Mickey Warhola, the 1st woman to shave her head. For Mickey, she lost her mother and brother to cancer and occasionally works with families whose child has cancer. As difficult as it was to lose her mom and brother to cancer, as a mom herself she cannot imagine the heartbreak these families go through. We need to get increased funding for cancer research no doubt. This small gesture is the least we can do for these extremely brave children battling this horrible disease. These children are an inspiration to us all; if we can shave our heads, raise awareness of this dreaded disease and raise money for research to find a cure, we will do this every year. As stated, it is a privilege to be working for these children and pediatric cancer.

We have designated VL4 as an additional recipient of the donations we raise.

Members of this team are: Pete Budzinski, Mickey Warhola

Uncle Vinny's Team

We are proud to support our uncle! My classmate was diagnosed with cancer on Uncle Vinny's floor at All Children's Hospital. He is receiving outpatient treatment and has to miss class. This is our way to make him feel better. We want to help him and all the other children who are bettling with cancer. We are shaving in honor of James Harris.

We have designated VL4 as an additional recipient of the donations we raise.

Members of this team are: Zachary Bale, Hugo Lecavalier

Women's Care Florida

I am shaving my head in honor of my son, Joel Adamski, who is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  I want to support the Pediatric Cancer and The Vincent Lecavalier Foundations for their tremendous efforts plus medical attention while tending to my son’s Leukemia treatments.  Our youngest child was diagnosed with this heartbreaking disease just after turning five years old and our family was completely devastated.  It was a life changing moment for my loved ones and I personally have never been challenged with such a difficult family situation.  Over the past year, I have met tremendous medical staff, employees and adolescent patients battling these heartbreaking issues while Joel was going through his treatments.  It has truly opened my eyes to a completely new world and I soon found myself admiring these young children for their bravery, courage and positive attitude while dealing with life threatening concerns on a daily basis.  These children are true heroes and their passion to become healthy plus enjoy life to the fullest is inspiring across the board.  I am humbled to be part of this terrific fund raising event and I encourage everyone to support a fabulous cause.  I am honored to lose my hair as a symbol of hope in curing pediatric cancer and I am committed to long term support for those battling this disease.

Recently one of my assistants was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer. Being only 26 years old, her life and life prospective was changed. This made me evaluate my own life and made me hold onto the hug from a loved one second longer. I stop at red lights and enjoy the world around me, instead of speeding up through the yellow lights. Most of all I smile more often and say I love you more every day to my daughters and family. I am shaving in honor of Jaclynn Wellace.

I will be shaving my head to fund pediatric cancer research because it is the right thing to do and I want to make a difference in the life of a child or family suffering from pediatric cancer. By shaving my head I am hoping to raise awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer. I was shocked to find out that only 3.8% of federal government cancer research goes to children. The Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s focus is to fund research to find less toxic and more targeted therapies. Currently, they have opened three Phase 1 clinical trials open at 11 hospitals nationwide. Great strides are being made, but our help is needed. Please join me in supporting the Pediatric Cancer Foundation – together we can make a difference.

I am honored to be supporting The Vinny Lecavalier Foundation and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation by participating in Cut for the Cure. I am in awe of the inner strength it takes to fight cancer, and have incredible respect and empathy for families who would do everything in their power to see their child well again. I am shaving my head in memory of my childhood friend and hockey teammate, Eric Pretto, who battled pediatric cancer and eventually lost his battle in 2006. Unfortunately, there are too many families like Eric’s. Please join me in doing our small part to fight pediatric cancer and, ultimately, find a cure.

I have decided to participate in Cut For a Cure because pediatric cancer is not fair. This disease requires children to endure physical and emotional stress beyond their young lives. As a parent, I cannot comprehend the helplessness and anxiety this disease brings to mothers and fathers of children affected by cancer. It is my hope that the efforts of Cut For a Cure are a small part of continued commitments in research and treatment to finally provide a cure.

If by shaving my head, I can bring awareness and capital towards finding a cure, I'm glad to do it. I hope to not only meet my goal, but to exceed it so I can make a difference in someone's life. I am truly humbled to be a part of this fund raiser.

I will be shaving my head to fund pediatric cancer research because this worthy organization puts the needs of cancer stricken children and their families FIRST. I believe in strength in numbers, that unity creates harmony and that life's greatest gift lies in the innocent smile of a hopeful child. I believe in the supreme worth of a child's life; a life free from restriction, illness or obstruction and full of love and support from those they call family and the community they call home.

As a firefighter I have had the opportunity to be a part of people’s lives, often at their most desperate times. Pediatric cancer hits close to home because my beautiful niece Abriana was diagnosed with germ cell tumors three years ago. As a firefighter people often think we are some of the bravest men and women, and respond to emergencies with often no regard to our own lives. However, after watching Abriana battle cancer, I quickly came to realize that she was one of the strongest most caring individuals I have ever met in my life. She was the backbone that held our family together in some of the most trying times. Her spirit and determination at such a young age inspired us all to be stronger individuals in the most challenging times. Sadly six months ago at the age of six, God called Abriana to come be with him to inspire others as she has inspired me. Through your donations with the help of my fellow brother/sister firefighters, I am pledging to raise money to support continuing research for a cure, and to help families and these courageous children in their most desperate times. I am shaving in memory of Abriana Michele Detty.

We have come to a point where almost everyone has been affected or knows someone who has been affected by the horrible afflictions of cancer. Having had a father who survived a terminal colon cancer diagnosis and as someone recovering from a successful skin cancer surgery himself, I am all too aware of the fears and challenges that come with having cancer. As hope arises that we are getting closer to a cure every day, I humbly stand with these children supported by the Pediatric Cancer Foundation to let them know that their lives are precious and that we father strength in their joyful expectations of a future without such a dreaded disease. I am looking forward to shaving my head this year in the Cut for a Cure Charity Challenge. In addition to supporting the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, half of the proceeds raised by the hairs falling from my head will benefit The Spring of Tampa Bay.

Together, these worthy charities serve to benefit our greatest gifts in life, our children. There can be no greater causes, or more worthy efforts than those that directly influence the health and well-being of our youngest and most innocent. Whether suffering at the hand of an awful disease, or an abusive situation, every child deserves hope. Every child is entitled to the hope that comes with knowing that we, as individuals and as a community, are finding cures and restoring safety. Each and every child deserves to know that we are doing all we can to ensure that tomorrow can, and will be, better than today. If, through the simple act of shaving my head, a person is made more aware, a dollar is raised, and a child is closer to hope, we will have succeeded together. I am shaving in memory of Donna, Linda and Sherry.

I am shaving my head as a symbol of solidarity with the children who are facing challenges associated with pediatric cancer. They have numerous hurdles to overcome, not only with the illness itself, but with the treatments and their side effects as well. I am hopeful that the fundraising component of Cut for a Cure will help researchers find a cure for this disease in the very near future. I am truly honored to be a participant in this very worthwhile endeavor, but moreover, I am humbled by the strength of the children and their families. I will proudly sport my shaved look with the hope that it brings awareness and attention to the Foundation and its quest for a cure for pediatric cancer.

I lost my grandmother to cancer when I was in college. We were very close and it was tough to see how cruel cancer can be. I have also been blessed with two healthy daughters. Seeing the work done by PCF is a sobering reminder of what families stricken with this have to go through and to never take a child's good health for granted.

I am shaving my head to fund pediatric cancer research as a small gesture of support and hope to all those fighting this terrible disease. Nothing is more frightening than a cancer diagnosis for a child. The anguish and fear can be debilitating. The irony lies in the fact that those going through such challenging circumstances often times are the strongest among us. Their strength and resolve to fight back against cancer serves as a reminder about what are the best aspects of the human spirit.

The fight against pediatric cancer will eventually be won. It may not be today or tomorrow or even in a few years but with a continued commitment to research and support, this enemy will eventually fall. I am honored that Vinny Lecavalier asked me to join his efforts to play a small but vital role is raising funds to find a cure for childhood cancer. Vinny's commitment to this effort is both humbling and amazing. I welcome the opportunity to help and hope that you will join me in this effort.

I am shaving in memory of Craig Saylor, my Aunt Betty and Harris Armstrong and in honor of Yvonne LeClair, Darby Steadman and Michael Tremonti.

I will be shaving my head to fund pediatric cancer research because I want kids with this dreadful disease to know that regular guys in the community are out here pulling for them. It's such a small gesture, but if it helps one kid with cancer then it's well worth the cut. I'm hopeful we can make a difference.

I will be shaving my head to fund pediatric cancer research because I believe in this cause and have seen first hand the work PCF does in my community. I appreciate the operational efforts and integrity with which PCF conducts its affairs. Particularly impressive are the amazing fundraising events held, and individual concern and care taken with the families battling through difficult and stressful times. This is a small sacrifice for a truly worthy cause. It will be my privilege and honor to participate in raising money and awareness. I am shaving in memory of Lillian Stoeckle, Kelly Mazzeo, Domingo Bastidas and Dann Angeloff.

I am humbled by the chance to participate in the Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s Cut for a Cure which is working hand and hand with the Vinny Lecavalier Foundation to raise funds to help the children affected by cancer. I will be giving financially to this cause as well as shaving my head to bring awareness to this disease which affects more than 160,000 children each year. Pediatric cancer research receives a very small portion of the cancer research allotted by the federal government so this fundraising event is desperately needed to help the children and families affected by this disease. Having two healthy children of my own I feel compelled to help others who may not currently be as fortunate. By contributing to this cause we can all join together in the fight against pediatric cancer to help these young children have a brighter future.

It is truly and honor to be invited back to again participate in PCF's Cut for a Cure. Last time I shaved my head to honor my sister, to show her that she was not alone in her fight. Now she is two years cancer free. However, there are so many others out there fighting for their lives, and I shave my head to show that they do not fight alone.

In 2001 my son, Michael, was diagnosed and treated for medulloblastoma (a brain tumor). My wife and I saw first-hand how devastating cancer can be and the affects chemotherapy and other treatments have on young children. Research is needed to provide less toxic treatments and eventually a cure for all forms of pediatric cancer. Last year I participated in Cut for a Cure and was overwhelmed by the support from family, friends and business associates. Thank you! Once again I am honored to volunteer this year and implore you to generously donate once more to this amazing organization and cause. I am shaving in honor of my son Michael Wax.

My involvement with the Pediatric Cancer Foundation began eight years ago when I learned how little funding exists to find a cure. I was shocked to learn that more money is spent annually protecting manatees in Florida than is spent worldwide on research aimed at finding a cure for pediatric cancer. While I am all for protecting the environment, I think our children should come first. I would be grateful for any donation that you could make to help in the fight to find a cure.

I will be shaving my head to fund pediatric cancer research to bring hope to the children and families. Shaving my head may seem drastic to people, yet it is a small gesture in comparison to what others do in raising money to find a cure. It is an honor to help bring awareness and support. I am so thankful to be a part of something so special.

I have lost friends and family to cancer and I'm honored to have the opportunity to bring awareness around this disease that affects so many. I am proud to be a part of the 2013 Cut for a Cure and I hope my participation can bring strength and inspiration to these young children's lives and act as a symbol of support for them and their loved ones in their daily fight.
